How long it takes to get a driving license in NZ?
In New Zealand, getting the driving license test is three steps process.
Step 1- Learner driving license
Step 2- Restricted driver’s license
Step 3- Full driving license

Learner’s license in New Zealand
If you have 16 years of age, you can be eligible for the Learner license by taking a driver’s written theory test based on the NZ road code. This test is not a practical part of the learner’s driving test. The restricted license in NZ
In New Zealand, a restricted license is the second step in the driving license process to get a full driving license. Suppose you are at least 17 years old before applying for your restricted driving license. One thing that is important in the restricted driving process has you must have held your learner license for at least six months. The restricted license test is 60 minutes and includes 45 minutes for drive time, and the remaining 15 minutes are used to check the vehicle’s safety before driving and provide feedback. There are two types of steps in driving tasks with a restricted license. The action assessable tasks include lane changes, left and right turns, straight drivers, merging with other traffic, right or straight at a roundabout and a reverse parallel park. Step 2 of the test takes 45 minutes and is designed to assess the applicant’s ability to perform more challenging tasks in moderate environments within speed Zones of 60km/h and over. An applicant must indicate safe decision-making, adherence to traffic laws, and adequate car-handling abilities during the entire restricted license to pass. A single test booking must include stages 1 and 2 of the restricted driving licenses. They cannot be broken up into different appointments.

Full driving license in New Zealand
The entire driver’s license test during time is 30 minutes long and includes 20 minutes of driving. Total driving test applicants will also be expected to apply appropriate hazard and detection responses to all assessable tasks without explanation from the testing officer. Test takers will be expected to demonstrate good driving skills in more complicated situations and maintain safe driving behaviours in a wide range of traffic situations and road conditions. You must pass a 30-minute practical test known as the full driving license to be eligible for a full driver’s license.

In NZ, driving license conditions
